Empowering emergency response: How Bliksund’s CRS Rescue Sheets are transforming safety
In the September issue of the German news outlet BKS Report, our Growth Director, Luca André, shared insights on the critical role of interactive rescue sheets provided through our Crash Recovery System (CRS). BKS Report is a leading publication within fire and disaster protection, focusing on cross-organisational efforts, tactical advancements, and industry innovations tailored for the Fire & Rescue community.
As modern vehicles become increasingly complex, the challenges faced by first responders grow. Bliksund has been a pioneer in rescue technology and offers innovative solutions to enhance the efficiency, safety, and effectiveness in emergency situations.
CRS - a globally recognised standard
In rescue operations, consistency and reliability are paramount. Bliksund has been instrumental in the development of ISO 17840, a globally recognised standard that ensures vehicle manufacturers provide standardised data on vehicle components critical for rescue operations. This effort is crucial for addressing the variability and complexity of modern vehicles, including electric and hybrid models.
“Standardisation within a regulatory framework is essential for ensuring consistent quality and reliability in the provision of critical vehicle information,”
says Luca André, Growth Director at Bliksund.
The result is a reliable system that minimises ambiguity and ensures first responders have access to the same level of detail, enabling cross-border collaboration and harmonised operations. With this standardised approach, first responders can focus on what matters most—saving lives.
A key tool in emergencies
The interactive rescue sheets in Crash Recovery System are much more than diagrams; they are life-saving tools that distill vital information into an easily digestible format. These sheets highlight essential vehicle components like airbags, high-voltage systems, and structural reinforcements. They also include guidance on where to cut and how to safely disable critical systems.
"With the increasing complexity of modern vehicles, rescue sheets have become essential for enabling faster, safer, and more informed decision-making during emergency situations." Luca André says.
Bliksund ensures these sheets are updated regularly to reflect advancements in vehicle design, such as alternative fuel systems and advanced safety features. By providing first responders with a clear and concise overview, rescue sheets help reduce uncertainty, allowing teams to execute with confidence and precision
Continuous feedback in developing CRS
Bliksund has established a robust feedback loop with its end users—those on the front lines actively using our solutions. Fire departments and rescue teams participate as beta testers, regularly evaluating our tools and offering invaluable insights that help us drive continuous improvement. Luca André says:
“User feedback is vital for the continuous improvement of rescue applications, ensuring they meet the evolving needs of first responders.”
This collaborative approach ensures that our solutions are not only technically robust but also practical in real-world scenarios. The company also invests in training resources, equipping responders with the knowledge to use these tools effectively.
Offline use and seamless integration
Bliksund's commitment to accessibility ensures that responders can rely on its solutions regardless of the situation. The CRS database is stored locally on users’ devices, making it accessible even in areas with poor or no internet connectivity. This feature is a game-changer, especially during natural disasters or in remote areas.
"Offline accessibility and innovative data retrieval methods empower responders to act effectively, even in challenging conditions." Luca André says.
The rescue sheets and CRS functionality such as license plate queries are designed to integrate directly into existing command-and-control systems, eliminating the need for additional software or processes. This seamless integration ensures that critical information is just a few clicks away, even during the most chaotic moments.
"Our solution enables quick and seamless access to the necessary data, without requiring additional software," André emphasises.
This integration ensures that new functionalities and technologies can be accessed within a system users already know, minimising the learning curve and reducing the risk of errors. Whether accessed through a central dispatch system or directly on-site, this approach allows first responders to move seamlessly from receiving information to taking action.
Collaboration with administrative authorities
Bliksund operates under diverse regulatory frameworks depending on the location of its system use, making technical partnerships with local authorities essential. For instance, in Germany, license plate requests can only be performed by Dispatch Centers via the German Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA). To comply, Bliksund developed a KBA-approved solution that enables Dispatch Centers to retrieve data and share rescue sheets with first responders on-site.
"Partnerships with organisations like the KBA enable Bliksund to provide compliant solutions and drive innovation for fire services." Says Luca André
The partnership with the KBA has been key to Bliksund's success, ensuring compliance with strict regulations while fostering innovation. Access to secured networks like the German NdB network further enhances the reliability and security, enabling precise license plate matching with rescue sheets.
Life-saving technology and proven solution
Bliksund’s mission is simple yet profound: to empower those who dedicate their lives to helping others. The precision and accessibility of its rescue sheets enable first responders to act with confidence and accuracy, minimising response times and ultimately saving lives. By combining advanced technology with practical usability, Bliksund enhances the safety of first responders while improving survival outcomes for those in need. '
" Bliksund’s technology reduces response times and enhances the precision of rescue operations, significantly improving survival chances for accident victims." concludes Luca André
